Why BFT Supports Ana Vasudeo and Jen Corn?

Why the Berkeley Federation of Teachers supports Ana Vasudeo and Jen Corn?

The Berkeley Federation of Teachers, representing over 900 certificated teachers, counselors, case managers, speech language pathologists and school psychologists in the Berkeley Unified School District, strongly endorses Ana Vasudeo and Jen Corn.

We are very excited about the experience and expertise these candidates will bring to the governance of our schools.

Jen Corn and Ana Vasudeo are the two School Board candidates that share our values which include:

  • Good Governance and willingness to be trained by professional organizations.

  • Proven work experience focused on equity.

  • Believe in creating educational outcomes for all students.

  • Are both current BUSD parents.

  • Respect for our educators and the work they do, day in and day out with our students.

  • Making sure our educators' experience and perspectives are taken into account when making decisions.

  • Endorsed by the Alameda Labor Council as well as Berkeley Council of Classified Educators and the Berkeley Classified Managers Union (Local 21) for their commitment to supporting workers and worker’s rights.

  • Fully support our public school system and fully fund our public schools as opposed to supporting broken school choice ‘reform’ models which have defunded our public schools.

  • Making sure our post-pandemic return to in-person learning was safe and followed legal mandates.

  • Supported our Superintendent when she was called to testify by MAGA Republican Congressional members.

  • Believes that BUSD employees are best served to provide educational services to our students as opposed to unaccountable and expensive private contractors.

  • Committed to working with our educators, District staff and families in order to close opportunity gaps in Berkeley.

As school board races across the state have become intensely politicized, Berkeley is no exception.  This is a critical race for our community, and we hope you will consider endorsing the two educator-backed candidates.
