BFT Political Action Committee

The Berkeley Federation of Teachers Political Action Committee (PAC) is a voluntary organization meant to provide a voice for BFT members in the political decisions that affect our working conditions and our students' learning conditions. We are active on the local, state and national levels. Educators are uniquely able to advocate for policies and candidates that support ideal teaching and learning conditions and our PAC provides a way for us to have this voice.

BFT members can sign up for voluntary, monthly contributions to our BFT political Action Committee Fund. BFT PAC funds are completely by the BFT local union. The PAC Executive Council, which includes representatives of every site and many departments, makes decisions about these funds. This fund pays for donations to important ballot initiatives on issues like corporate tax reform and single payer health care program, as well as local measures such as Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP) and Berkeley Unified School District construction bonds, as well as to BFT endorsed candidates who we believe will carry our progressive vision for public educator forwards. In the past, the BFT PAC has participated in efforts to defeat vouchers, to advocate for adequate education funding and progressive budget priorities, and to pass school parcel taxes in Berkeley. BFT PAC donation to the campaign for the 2020 Measure E, F and G was instrumental in passing the measures.

With public education under attack it is imperative that all members join the Political Action Committee and actively defend their profession and the students we serve.
