BFT Action--March 2020

Campaign Victory!
BFT is happy to report that Measures E, G, and H have passed with amazing support! Votes will still be counted over the next couple weeks, but, we feel confident in saying: WE WON!! You were essential to this campaign! Thank you BFT volunteers!

Current Results show Measure E with 78% approval, Measure G with 78% approval and Measure H with 81% approval.

Schools and Communities First Update

Schools and Communities First will bring in $6.1 million dollars to BUSD if passed in November. This would alleviate any need for budget cuts  in the coming years and provide much needed services to our students as well as put us in a good negotiating position for our next contract.

We need to make sure this proposition gets on the ballot and once it does, that it passes in November. We will be organizing site by site to demand change on a statewide level, starting with the passage of Schools and Communities First.

BFT passed this resolution explaining how we will get involved. Our students deserve fully funded schools.

We have surpassed our internal goal of getting signatures from 750 members. We are now increasing our goal to 1,000 signatures. If you're interested in being part of your site Schools and Communities First Action Team, let your site rep know. This team will work on member engagement at your site throughout the Schools and Communities First Campaign.

Elementary Sites across the district participated in signature gathering at morning drop- off today! Other sites are gathering signatures throughout the day as well. Thank you for your activism!

Please remember return any remaining petitions to BFT by March 12. If you're sending them via district mail, please mail them by March 9!

BFT in the News!

BFT members were featured twice in the most recent CFT United that was emailed to members on February 24.

Make sure to check out the Special Education Report which features our contract campaign and SPED victories.

Make sure to read the Public Education Forum Story, which BFT Vice President, Janine Waddell attended in December.

Have you completed the Workforce Housing Survey?

You should have received an email from BUSD on March 2. With this short survey BUSD hopes to assess the potential demand for workforce housing.

Please complete this short survey by March 13th. It is critical that the most accurate information is collected so this project can reflect the actual needs our members face. A summary of the results will be presented to the School Board as they plan for BUSD workforce housing. You can access the survey here.
