BFT Action--March 2017

Calling all BFT members: Contract Campaign Kick Off!

This Thursday, March 9th, BFT members will fan out across the city to talk to local businesses about our upcoming contract negotiations and to thank them for their support over the years. This action has been a big part of our last two contract campaigns, and was a big reason why we were able to win such strong contracts!

Please join us! This is a fun, empowering contract action that only takes one hour of your time after school. It's a family-friendly event--bring your kids! Everyone works in teams for this event, so it's also a fun way to hang out with your colleagues and build organizing energy together.

WE NEED YOU!
Talk to your Site Rep and sign up to join Teachers Across Berkeley today!

Membership Meeting on Negotiations, March 16th!

Very important membership meeting coming up on Thursday, March 16th! This will be a negotiations-related meeting with two foci: prep time for K-5 teachers and potential proposed changes to the school calendar

This meeting will be at 4:00 in the Multipurpose Room at Berkeley Adult School, with snacks provided. Come help your Negotiations Team envision a better BUSD!

Cesar Chavez & Dolores Huerta Essay Contest! Share with your students!
Calling all teachers! Join the Cesar Chavez & Dolores Huerta Commemorative Period Essay Contest! This year's contest centers on the case of Mendez v. Westminster, wherein the Mendez family fought against segregation in California public schools.

The contest is open to all classrooms from 2nd-12th grade. If you'd like your class to participate, you should email the Commemorative Committee at curriculum@chavezhuerta.org.

Need A BFT Hoodie or T-Shirt?
Make sure you have a BFT t-shirt and hoodie as we march in the streets and gear up for our contract campaign.  If you do not have a t-shirt, please send an email with the STYLE (crew or scoop) and SIZE you need and we will send you a FREE t-shirt.  If you would like a hoodie, please send us a check for $25 to BFT via district mail, and let us know if you want a Men's (Navy) or Women's (Black) hoodie, and we will send it to you in district mail.

CFT Convention Delegates Elected!

After an election with very high turnout, this year's elected CFT convention delegates will be:
- BFT President Cathy Campbell
- BFT Vice President John Becker
- BFT Treasurer Dale Long
- Oxford Elementary Site Rep Susan Archuletta
- Rosa Parks teacher and longtime BFT activist Tracey Iglehart

Additionally, Yvette Felarca (King Middle School) and Brian Crowell (formerly of Berkeley High) will be attending as BFT delegates at their own expense.

Thank you to these members for this service to your union, and thank you to everyone who nominated themselves!
